"The work is a means of communication between the creator and the admirer"
Born on November 20, 1956 in San Sebastián, in the Basque Country, Luis Salazar settled in Liège in October 1966 with his family, fleeing the Franco dictatorship. From an early age, he was driven by a passion for poetry, music and painting. Trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Liège, he deliberately chose the path of abstract painting, against the conceptual trends of his time.
His artistic lineage is rooted in the great European pictorial tradition, from the old masters to the moderns like Maurice Estève, Clyfford Still and Jackson Pollock. He works alongside his wife Geneviève and their two sons, Pablo and Hugo. His partnership with Geneviève profoundly influences his creative production, giving birth to works that capture the essence of human emotion through light and shadow.
Recognized as an honorary citizen of Liège in 2008 and appointed Knight in the Order of Arts and Letters in 2010, Luis Salazar has exhibited in more than a hundred venues in Europe and internationally. The Lambrecth Foundation, established in 2020 by Christian Lambrecth and Brigitte Beckers thanks to their friendship with Luis Salazar, preserves his work and promotes his art nationally and internationally.
